Teaching Statement

My approach to teaching is fundamentally grounded in a careful balance of theoretical foundations and applied practice, with a strong emphasis on relationships. First, having worked for almost two decades at a professional school, I carefully consider the professional readiness skills pre-service professionals require for working in the education sector. In this way, I set high expectations for students and challenge them to move beyond what they think they know, or assume, about a given topic or field. This culminates in coursework that is both reflective and applied.

Mentoring

I take great pride in my role as mentor to doctoral students and former master’s students who have gone on to forge their own paths in the field of education. While there are too many to name, I encourage you to check out some former mentees' work below.

Check out the amazing projects that some of my former students are working on!

"Mandy has always gone above and beyond to invest in her students, not only lending an authentic listening ear when presented with critical information but also putting herself on the line to shift and challenge systems in order to better serve her students’ needs.”  “Mandy doesn't shy away from difficult conversations, actively leaning into them as the growth opportunities they have the potential to be. She is generously available with her time and backs up her ceiling high expectations with sky high support.”
